Hi All

Does anybody remember a filler that Aunty (The A.B.C) used to play often in the 80s to do with Voyager/Mariner and other cool space stuff?

It had fantastic animations of Voyagers "Grand Tour”, contemporary realtime video of Sol, and ended with the splashdown and recovery of what I think was an Apollo capsule.

The vision was set against a choral choir meets “Prog rock” kind of soundtrack.

It was often played at 17:50 or so before or after the video for the Fleetwood Mac song "Tusk" ((awesome video))

You might have caught it before episodes of Dr Who with Tom Baker which my very shaky memory recalls starting at 18:05 or so

Anyone?

The only ABC fillers I remember are "Laff-a-bits" which was vintage Keystone Cops type of stuff set to fast music, and the music video of Fleetwood Mac's "Tusk".

These were often chucked in in front of Kenny Everett or The Goodies.

Ah, poor old cudly Ken......

Cheers,
Jason.

Gotta love Kenny. "Brother" Lee Love, Sid snot, Captain Kremmen...RIP Kenny. Who could forget the dance troupe "Hot Gossip"

If you saw the stadium version of the vid for "Tusk" on ABC the vision im thinking of couldnt be far behind.

I liked 'Mr Sqiggle' the most.

Yes-Tom Baker as Dr Who was great too-no annoying red head lady friends.

Later in the evening-'Yes Minster'-Sir Humphrey Appelby' was-well like how government really is.

Ah-the good'ole days

P.S on an astronomy note re A.B.C in the 80's those in Brissy may remember the Astro program on the radio on Thursday nights at 7.30 with Mark Riggby from Sir Thomas Moore observatory and Gary Ord.

Mark would give a tour around the night sky while we had the radio in the garden and he described position of star, details and then 'hop scotch' to the next celestial item.I remember all this so clearly, from Toowong in the 'burbs.
I learnt my major stars-the first was Canopus.-that was real astronomy-and so much fun!

Yes, it's an excerpt from Mike Oldfield's Incantations. The video is from a compiled movie which celebrated NASA and is called "The Space Movie". You can buy a dvd of it.

The actual part of it that the ABC used can be seen here on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3OhRJf4VFgU

My sister and I used to race in to watch it when we heard it come on.

Thanks for finding that! I was hoping someone would know where it was on Youtube. Still don't remember it, though.

Thank you very much for the link Simon. I was so stoked to watch it after nearly 30 years, I neglected to respond.

I remember it a little differently, more like this one.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6wBRPepP3bM&feature=related (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6wBRPepP3bM&feature=related)

I used to say to my Dad that the bit between 0:29 and 0:33 was the Liberator from Blakes 7 checking our space probes were OK.

But at the same time I have memories of bits in Simons link that are not in the above version.

2 different edits on the A.B.C?

I recall FM's Tusk also. This SF filler was prior to that, from memory.
