View Full Version here: : Jupiter 1 Oct in frustrating seeing

Hi. Got some fair data through 40kt winds at 200mb and local gusting south easterlies - and then spent many hours trying to work out the best way to stack it. The high altitude winds had obviously robbed the finest detail, but I still managed to convince myself during the capture runs that the feeds were OK - wishful thinking. Despite the frustration, it is nice to have an image - even a very soft one. Thanks for looking. Regards Ray

Looks like it might be good scope Ray

Wow, Ray if that is as bad as you are going to get with your set up, the good stuff is going to be outstanding. I'd say 75% of my Jupiter images wouldn't be within a "bulls roar" of the detail you have captured.
All the best. Thanks for the view.

Well done Ray, a most creditable result. You have some quite nice detail there in spite of the softness due to the Jet.

hi again Rob. Yes, the scope has potential, but as yet I haven't been able to get anywhere near it's limits - seeing has been by far the most significant limiting factor to date.
Hi Lester. That is a very generous comment. I also have lots of images that are less detailed, but I recall some Jupiter images of yours that are way better than this.
Thanks very much Trevor - looking forward to better nights.
PS just found a better dataset from later in the sequence - attached

Both of those images are nice Ray. The last one is very sharp with lovely fine detail showing through. Congrats on capturing detail on Io. I was out that night but the seeing here was not as good as what you have there. I could see the sharp shadow but Io was no where to be seen. You got the better end of the seeing that night.

Hi Rob - thanks very much.
Hi Paul. Thanks. The seeing sure has been very variable lately - guess it will improve soon.
Thanks Lester.
