Another project was undertaken last night and I will be looking for another night to have a go at getting a better image. Finding suitable targets to backdrop the Milkyway behind is pretty tough here in SA. This one is certainly a nice foreground view and mixed with the Milkyway I think it works.

Thanks guys. Virgs and I have even contemplated getting a trolley with a rotating head to animate this location. The tide could be a problem though. This was done at 0.4 and the other end was 2.1.

Josh, it is a great spot as you would know. There is a bit of light pollution at the spot though. The council has seen in its infanite wisdom to place several lights which shine onto the site. That makes it difficult.

Still great fun to have a go at anyway.

Great shot Paul - but the sky looks a bit too green/blue - otherwise really nice.
We had a few very enjoyable holidays there many moons ago - are you still allowed to drive your car on the beach ??
Willunga (the township) was one of the first release NBN sites as well - lucky buggers. Fast internet would be handy for a remote observatory :-)

I don't think you can drive onto Port Willunga but you can drive onto Sellecks, Silver Sands and Moana beaches.

No point in having high speed internet at one end mate and it not being at the receiving end. Not to mention the cost of equipment upgrade to make it that way too. Still one day we will all have it I suppose.:)

You might be right about the sky colour. Although I kind of like it this way a bit. With all the light pollution in this area I was glad to get some colour at all. It will no doubt undergo a few generations of colour balance before I am satisfied with the look. Thanks for your opinion.:)

A lovely image Paul.

Those old jetty poles really make the image, a lovely contrast.

That's great Paul.... love the way the old jetty pylons look like they are glowing embers ...
Ah, hope you didn't douse them with petrol and set fire to them... did you???:eyepop:
Photographers will do anything for an artistic shot:lol:

Ok,, how bout a picie of the Bluff in the for ground and the milky way?? Old hat... mmm...

Better still, taking an image from around the corner at the Pines in Victor so that Granite Island and the causeway are in the for ground with the milky way looking like it is ending near Wright Island ??

Even another take, an image from the hills just behind Victor with the whole Bay and milky way.. The moons coming up, this would look good with it sitting just on top of the Bluff.... with the islands ??
Lot of non S.A.ers would be quite impressed with the vista.

Just my thoughts that would look quite specie around the sth coast...

Thanks for sharing your roving photographical forays !

What a great photo Paul.

Nothing beats a wide angle astro shot with a bit of earth.

Beautiful!

Ross.
