Hi all,
I've been toying with the idea of moving from an LX90 to an eq. mount, possibly with a larger OTA, though I also have a spare 8" SCT OTA sitting here. The Celestron AS-GT looks like good value but I'm under the impression that it's even noisier than the Meade LX scopes. Can someone tell me how noisy the HEQ-5 is when slewing?

I have to keep things portable as I need to dodge street lights or buildings depending on what I'm observing, so I'm not considering the EQ-6.

This is my first post here. Thanks to Iceman for setting up a great site - it looks really well done.

Ron at Sirius Optics in Brisbane demo'd a HEQ5 with go to... those drives were mighty smooth and mighty quiet, esp compared with my LXD75:)

thanks for the info Robert. I cringe when the LX90 slews late at night, as I am set up close to sleeping people. The drives seem really piercing when all is quiet.

Not sure about the HEQ-5, but with my EQ6, it is very very quiet. Just a slight buzzing sound from bee.

Oh btw, welcome Tony :)
