Hi all, last night was the best night I have had for astro for many months, calm, cloud free and low humidity. I was keen to try out the UHCs filter I had puchased a few weeks ago. I have never used filters, and thought they were only for light polluted sky conditions. Well I was very impressed with the results. I took some images of the same area without the filter and there was no comparison. The contrast and extra colour this filter revealed in the Veil nebula has convinced me to use it more often than not.

This is only 4 x 5 minute exposures taken with Astro 40D at ISO 1600 and Takahashi 160mm Epsilon Astrograph F3.3 .

Stacked in DSS and processed in Photoshop.

Thanks Marc for your comments.

Here I have improved the contrast in curves and added some saturation, thanks Paul for your tip.

Hi Lester,
this is a little beauty and excellent for only 20 mins... incredible really!!
The filter sounds like it is a keeper!

Hope you are going to get more down on this.. ??

My end of the E.P have had pesky high thin cloud... has made for some pretty soft focus but the last couple of sunsets have been pretty specky!.

All the best
Rich

Thanks Rich for your comments. Yes the weather has not co-operated for us on E.P., although I would like some rain for my wheat crops now. I will be adding some more exposures to this when I get an opportunity, perhaps 3 weeks time with the weather forcast and Moon comming.

All the best.

Yep the ol' moon is back around again... DAMN!

Yes crops here arn't as good as last... while they're quite thick, they're not very high... definitely need a bit more rain. Although things are starting to dry out real fast now.

Look forward to the end result.
Should be excellent!

All the best
Rich

Thanks Darren and Clive, for your comments. It looks like I may get another go at this tonight, with the cold front still a distance off to the west. I will try and frame this a bit better, and should be able to get in some more of the Veil complex in the one FOV.

Nice result for 20 mins! You must love the F3.3! It's like a 3 hour shot with my F9 ED100.
