A dark nebula in Aquila (from Lynds Catalog of Dark Nebulae).

Taken at Ten Chain Hill last night through smoky skies, which seems appropriate.

Gear was Tak FSQ-106ED, AP900 mount, SX H-18 mono camera. LRGB 142,15,15,15 mins. I would have liked more data, but that was all I managed before it completely disappeared into the smoky soup.

Cheers,
Rick.

Nice one Rick. Turned out very nice considering the short colour subs.

Lots of nice dark nebs out there that we don't seem to image very much.
Well done.

Great work Rick. Not commonly seen and looks like a fascinating area.

Thanks, Doug. I guess if most of the colour is in the stars then you don't need as much RGB time.

Thanks, Rob. Yes, it's a very interesting looking area. It reminds me of a Chinese or Japanese character floating in space.

Cheers,
Rick.

A fascinating image Rick. It has an amazing structure about it.

I can't recall having seen this image before.

In Aquila huh? well who would'a thought

Looks like something you'd expect to see in the Sag-Scorpio area.

Nice result

Great shot. Looks like the patterns worms make under tree bark. Almost like a maze pattern. Very cool.

Thanks, Louie!

I haven't been imaging very long and I've mostly been doing the "common" objects. I thought it was time to chase something a bit different and also to start capturing more data. At least I managed half of that :) Thanks for the comments, Ric.

Thanks, Mike. It was you that encouraged me to go for a mono CCD. It definitely makes a big difference if you can get the extra subs!

Marc, I think that nebula is so cool it ought to have a name with heavy metal umlauts in it  Thanks...

I'm hoping for a clear night at Ten Chain Hill again next weekend. I'd love to add a few more hours data to this one.

Cheers,
Rick.

Nicely done Rick! That's the most complicated set of dark nebulae I've seen in a while.

Cheers

Hi Rick,
That looks great.
I hope we'll be seeing that on the big screen at the next meeting.
It will look fantastic.
Cheers,
Ken.

Hi Rick,

What a great photo.

I love the deep blacks...it gives it a 3D look.

Thanks.

Ross.

Rick,

Nice one, glad you managed to get enough data, despite the nearby smoke haze. You certainly attracted lots of admiring comments here.

Do hope you get clear skies to finish off this next week.

Cheers,

David

Thanks, Steve!

Ken, I hope to add some more data before the AAQ meeting, but I'll certainly bring this and a few other images along. Thanks...

Thanks, Greg!

Thanks, Ross. I was hoping to capture that smoky look that I've seen in other images of dark nebulae, including that lovely Dark Doodad of yours.

Thanks, Mike.

Thanks, Rolf.

Thanks, David. I have my fingers crossed for a clear weekend. Have to make the best of it before the winter weather disappears completely.

Cheers,
Rick.

That dust has a nice 3D look to it near the bottom of the dust lane. Looks pretty nice.
