Saturn 24/02 from a digital camera

Here's a processed pic of Saturn. Pointed my sony digital camera into a 9mm EP and 3x barlow. 529 frames stacked. was kinda hard holding the camera against the EP but finally got there.

Nice effort Ezy, I have been wondering whether it would be possible to use a series of shots from a digicam, looks like the technique has potential. :)

Thanks Phil. I was thinking of getting a Toucam. How would a Toucam compare from the image i took through the sony digi cam?

as to a toucam, I would love to think you will be joining us in the 1000x mag club shooting large scale jupiters etc. so stability stability stability.

a toucam or the new 900nc with the lens taken out and an adapter clamped in the focusser will make this soooo much easier

I would persevere with the Sony for a while, if that's hand held and you can get an adapter to hold the sony, you may well get comparable or even better results that the ToUcam brigade..

That's a lovely shot for handheld. Guess the best thing is you can use your video camera fro other stuff too whereas the Toucam is just for astro stuff.

I have seen some quality planetary shots taken with camcorders, but by and large it must be a lot easier and more consistent to use a Toucam or Neximage, LPI etc. No reflections, less glass as DP says, easier to get and keep focus and with lots of settings to optimise - of course you do have to have a PC at the scope which could be a downside. Most of the really good planetary shots these days are taken with webcams... whether that's because they are better than camcorders or because it becomes a fashion thing with more people investing the time in learning and sharing experiences on these I'm not sure.
