Hello,
I would like to present a solar mosaic from 18th Sept 2011, made up from panels harvested from some 42 avi’s recorded during a period of approx 1 hour.
Unfortunately I did not manage to tame the tonal gradients across the panels that make up this mosaic so it may appear a little blotchy.:(
AVI’s captured with a DMK31AF04.AS at the prime focus of a Tak Mewlon 180mm F12 scope. The overall colour is a tad false, the result of some (hopefully subtle) creative colour mixing in CS5!:)
Thanks for looking!
Cheers

Thats a splendid detailed result, I think you are inspiring others to try white light imaging.

Nice sharp looking image Dennis. As per what I have come to expect when I open your images.

Thanks for the nice comments – this was an interesting project. I struggled with three types of “gradients” during the processing and stitching phases:
Uneven field in each frame (I didn’t take Flats).
The effects of smoke from heavy burn offs in Brisbane.
The effects of altitude as the AVIs were recorded over approx 1 hour.
I also manually adjusted the Gain between runs, as the Sun climbed above the horizon to avoid the highlights from saturating.
Not being able to mitigate the vignetting in each frame has led to the final image looking like a World Cup Soccer football with all the panels visible when you look at the image from a distance of a few feet. Next time, I’ll flat field each frame and reduce the overall capture period so reduce the variation in seeing from increasing altitude, not to mention the smoke!;)
I found the “Batch” processing mode in AVIStack V2 absolutely indispensible. The PC ran for most of the day just crunching the numbers in auto mode.:)

That's fantastic Dennis. It's great to see some more white light solar images lately.
That is just awesome imaging, you can just about feel the heat, spectacular stuff.

Thanks for the comments Matt, Rolf, Leon, and “BPO”, I appreciate them. In this instance, it was the batch processing capability of AVIStack V2 that made this project feasible.:)

Awesome!!! Ive just recently bought a thousand oaks solar filter and had my first look at sunspots. Its nice to be able to use the scope during the day too. Your mosaic is amazing!! Hope Im producing stuff like that one day. Think I need a new focuser tho I cant seem to get focus.Going to go look for your other work :)
