Does anyone have one of those little gadgets that attches the iPhone to the scope EP slot? It was featured in the latest AS&T .. the item is from the US.

Looks great - attach the EP slot, and the image comes up on the phone, so great for public nights, and you can take piccies!!

Just one more step.......;)

$X hundred for an iPhone 4, $US44 for the adapter and another $AU40ish for Sky Safari Pro and you're all set Liz.

Hmm interesting idea. When I first read this thread, I thought it would be a bit of a gimmick. But it looks good, although as the website says, it's more suited for brighter objects like the moon, planets etc.

I reckon an iPad version of this adaptor would be fantastic with the larger screen. Although from what I've heard the iPad2 rear camera isn't too crash hot compared to the iPhone's.

Might have to buy myself one to try out on my 3GS when they get more stock.

yep that first step onto the imaging slope is the slippery-est. Its looks like you will have a firm foothold and you feel like you will be able to maintain control, but before you know it you are head over heels and heading downhill fast.

You might as well get rid of all those silly eyepiece thingys - you won't be needing them any more....;)

Sell the eyepieces and buy a camera instead....you know you want to.

Don't listen to them Liz :help:
Resist the dark side! Once they hook you in with a few words, they trap you....:eyepop: They nearly did my head in once :prey2: (yes, am sure you remember Rob & Nettie :P ).

Liz, that sounds a very interesting thing to do with an android phone. As I'm a new user of one myself, I'm still learning what can be done with them. Tho I have a Samsung Galaxy, not an I-Phone .

Not sure if anyone has been able to get hold of one yet as they are sold out. I've been keeping an eye on it the past couple of weeks to see if they are taking any more sales, and if they do, I'll be sure to post.

Just got a follow up email regarding availability of this adaptor.

Magnilux was originally selling them for $44.95, now with the Orion Telescopes branding it's jumped to $59.99. :eyepop: Not sure if I'm so keen on one now with a $15.00 price hike for branding. I'm going to enquire as to whether Magnilux will sell them direct again for the cheaper price or if that is our only choice.

Great!

I got a message saying they are now being marketed by Orion.

I couldn't complete the on-line purchase process 'cos it was impossible to enter a non-US postcode (zip), so I contacted Orion.

Here's what they had to say:

"Unfortunately, we do not ship internationally and are, therefore, unable to accommodate your request. We have a number of international dealers that may be able to meet your needs for Orion products."

I never could understand what the big deal is about putting a product in a package and posting it interstate *OR* overseas.

What's the diff?!

What a joke! I didn't even think to look if you could even buy it from Orion as I've never brought anything from them before.

I'm still waiting to hear back from Magnilux on whether it can be purchased from anywhere else other than Orion Telescopes. Hopefully there are other options as I'm still a bit miffed over the Orion branding markup, and the fact we can't even purchase it takes the cake!

Btw I also found it at Amazon.com, but it's still being sold by Orion Telescopes so it wouldn't let me ship it to Australia. Only way right now is to use a freight forwarder but then on top of the Orion markup, your going to pay more fees plus shipping to get it here.

Not impressed.

bloody orion..

it looks pretty easy to fabricate from alum and felt.
I will have a crack over the christmas holidays, then put my own brand on it, sell internationally and make $40 profit. I think a good price is $44.95 :)

Seriously though, if im successful expect to see it in the classi's for dirt cheap.

I like the idea about ISS branded.. and for ipad.. thats epic.
Quick update on progress, I have purchased some tubing and am in the process of making a shaping mold for the attachment to the eyepiece. Once I am successful with that I will start on the main body. Its all in my head and is looking good! Estimated only a few $ of parts, Estimated resell $20-$30. If i get clever i will try and ISS brand it :)

Hi Guys,

I have had an epic development in making one of these. I have found aluminium cases for the phone for very little money. I have ordered a few and should have a prototype up and running hopefully in a few months.!!!
