Hi Everyone,
Finally got a cloudless night so I decided to capture M16. Because I have an ED100 (F9) it can be a little frustrating as I can't go too deep without noise. I decided to ramp the ISO up to 1600, short subs and use some noise reduction as a little experiment to try to get more data. Result was more data and noise. It is blotchy but the general shape and pillars are there. It is only an hours worth of 1 minute subs but worth the experiment. Here is a low-res crop.

Looks really good. Cant believe its only 1 min subs. Very nice indeed.

nice work Lucas. I have one of those scopes so I am taking interest in your image.Orion does have a reducer for the ED100.

Striking effort for 2 min subs, just goes to show what you can do with a dslr.
I take it the camera has been modded.

Thanks Clive. Surprisingly my camera is an unmodded Canon 550D. I also use an IDAS-LP2 filter. I initially thought that targets like these may not work so well but I seem to get reasonable red response so I was pleasantly surprised myself.

Lucas, a fine image, I'm steering away from light pollution filters, Never really had a great deal of success with them! Maybe jus a personal thing. Experiment with different configs, if we ever get clear skies and I look forward to seeing your results.

It's deceptively hard to get M16 looking good most of the time and that's a very decent rendition.

Thanks Darren. I might try have another go without it soon as I agree with you and would prefer not to use it. I just find I get longer subs with it presently and imaging at F9 I need as much time as I can get!
