I like it  I had fun playing with it in PS and like the result of some vinyetting around the bottom and bringing down the whites so that the grass isn't distracting, and upping the saturation and midtones slightly to offset some of that change.

Thanks Mike, Jeanette, Tom, Roger. Every time I look at this image I am still wondering what it would be like to live there, I know it's certainly darker than home :D

Brilliant shot Andrew. love the composition and captures the drama well.
All that's missing is background music from a horror movie!

I can imagine the clanking of the tin on the verandah as the breeze stirs it and the crisp whistle of the wind through the grass.

Australia only has a short European history ,but when you see images like that you can imagine the trials and tribulations the settlers went through to build a house like that and to work the land.
Great setting and photography :)
Thanks.
Cheers

I believe most of the houses like that were built with convict labour

That is a fantastic image. Well done. Can anyone explain how you take an HDR image please? (In simple terms - duh)

Many thanks

I simply set my camera up (Canon 400D) to Auto Exposure Bracketing mode or AEB. Usually found under the menu of most DSLR's. I also had the camera set to AV mode. The bracketing mode allows me to take 3 images and the camera will adjust the exposure etc.. so that one shot would be under exposed (highlights), one exposed correctlly and one over exposed (shadows). Using a program like photoshop it has it's own HDR process in it, so getting the image to look right is fairly simple. So adjusting the levels of the shadows and highlights the program can give you a greater depth to the image.

Andrew,

OK, that doesn't sound too tricky. I already have the Canon 400D, and I have Photoshop CS5 Extended on order and expected this Thursday. Maybe I'll have a play around and see where I go. Thanks for the help

The only suspense I feel is waiting for my flight here at Christchurch Airport. :P

I think the same (but more realistic) outcome can be reached using masks and careful blending :P

But, that's just my opinion; and, I'm no authority on the ethics of photography. :P
