Wow – what a collection of solar images! The image scale and quality are excellent. I was astonished to see that some were taken with an ED80 and x2.5 Powermate!:eyepop:

The bridge in 11289 shows up really well in the C11 image, quite an intricate structure. That long, looping prominence in the Sept 16 23:43 UT images is awesome.:thumbsup:

Thanks Dennis, you are very kind. The 2.5x Powermate does seem to push the little SM40 a bit but its still only f/18.75... not quite up there with the f/25 to f/38s of a lot of planetary imagers. But then again I suppose seeing is generally worse during the day too:rolleyes:.




Shame its not clear, Matt. Its another glorious day here (still a bit windy though). I'd like to do it all again, but I have some other commitments that have to happen today unfortunately.

Hi Al What a collection of solar activities. Excellent work! I have recently acquired a PST and I saw the same prominences and stuff. Awesome. Might try some imaging with the humble ToUcam. A lot to learn from you yet.

What a great collection of shots. How large are your stacks? Excellent job!

The PST will do an admirable job with the ToUcam. The biggest trick is to get the camera close enough... you might need to modify the nosepiece to get the camera closer for focus.:thumbsup:

I usually capture about 600 frames (but I'll extend that if a cloud scuds through, etc). I process in Registax 5, so I use the stackgraph to drop the stack list to the best 250 frames and then eliminate the distorted frames by adjusting the difference slider to give the best 100 or so frames - which is what I stack.:)

The B1200 is a Lunt blocking filter. You need 2 things to do Ha viewing or imaging: a Ha Etalon at the front of the scope (SM40) and then a blocking filter (B1200 in my case but Coronado make when as well). The etalon uses resonance between two almost opaque surfaces to build up enough energy to pass through. Of course there can be many resonant frequencies of light. The blocking filter picks out the frequency peak at Ha and blocks the rest.:)

Thanks quite Ok Martin, I was once a newbie too (I'm still probably not that far ahead of you:P).

I capture my images with a DMK 41 which is a mono camera. You are correct, the colour is artificially applied during post processing. There are lots of ways to do it, but the method I prefer is to adjust the output of a levels layer in PS. To gte the colour I use, I drop the blue output to 0 and the green to 150.
