I took the opportunity last night to get some images of Jupiter. Seeing wasn't too good and instead of using the 640x480 video crop mode of the EOS 550D I left it in the 1080p 30fps mode for a wider view. 12" Sky-Watcher Goto Dobsonian, manually tracked, with 5x Powermate.
Thanks for looking,
Tom

Nice work, Tom - I always like your images. Do you know to know what that dark spot near the edge of Jupiter is?
I went outside for "an hour or two" last night (nice to get some clear skies in Brisbane) to do some imaging and ended up staying out until dawn. It was my first time seeing/imaging Orion and the other half of the Milky Way... so it was totally worth it :)

Thanks Dave and Rob. Dave the spot is the shadow of Ganymede. I would have loved to have stayed up to get more because this would have made a wonderful timelapse.

Amazing! I witnessed the same last night.
I too was using my 550D to capture, although I only had tiny little white dots - I assume the 5x powermate gave you the zoomed/clarity?
How do these work? Do you slip them in the end of the projection tube and then in to the eyepiece? Looks like a worthwhile investment... do these work with Newts (concerned about being able to focus in the Newt) /newbie
