OK, this one is some thing that I have observed and want to know the likely cause.
This solar cycle (24) the main distribution of spots has been in the northern hemisphere.
Is this because in cycle 23 the main distribution early on was from the southern hemisphere? Does it oscillate between hemispheres?
Is it normal for one hemisphere to active more than the other and this progressively evens out as maximum approaches?
Or is this not been observed before? Is this an indicator of what is going to come next cycle? Is the south failing first?
The proliferation so far has shown more activity in the north and little in the south. Perhaps this is a key indicator or some sort. I have checked a couple of solar books I have here and I cannot find anything about the problem.
Perhaps someone here knows.
