taking these at the moment, I thought i would post a single 1600iso shot from my "new' modified setup. That ed80 rocks! IR/UV filter 55 seconds unguided on eq6.

now i took everything in RAW hi (de) and have taken approx 1.2 gig images mainly at 30 seconds and then 25 at 1 minute. That was a minute shot I posted. I changed various settings of iso from 400 10 seconds to 3200 30 seconds and shot darks on each setting, haven't a clue what flats are yet. I get imagesplus next week and I have registars (registered) and noiseworks (just the evaluation version)

Nice work Houghy....sounds like you have plenty of exposures to play with.

Do you have Photshop CS.

Have you worked out guiding with the ST4 yet.

Robby, have a good look at the running man Nebula, see the dust moat, it is a peice of black rubber or plastic on the inside of the cmos cover glass. I can live with the glue on the side but that moat is a problem. I might have to send the camera back over and get you to remove that for me. Unless its easy to get at somehow?

The poll is to get some reaction from Scott, he has been posting some pearlers lately, he's a very talented astrophotographer! If I get a nibble I have had my fun. One must try to enjoy themselves occationally

Tony I was going to last night, but I didn't feel well enough to play around with it. Yes I know I should have.:wink2: when I do I should be able to get longer exposures guaranteed, I hope to be proficient enough to use it at Qld astrofest. the timer i bought is a beauty, I allow for mirro lock up, preview the image and how many exposures, set and walk away. its great.

The images are there for you to get exercises for your neck to stretch out at the PC:whistle:

I can't see it. Dust is dust. It gets everywhere. You'll never get rid of it all. Chances are it is on the outside on the glass. I can clean it for you, and I'll get rid of that other nasty too so will request the refund to be refunded.

But don't send it yet, I have my Mum in hospital with a brain tumor, so we are dealing with that atm. I'll let you know.

I wish your mum the best and for a recovery. That isn't easy to deal with Robby, I can fully understand your situation as my dad had three brain operations for melonamas, unfortunatelly it was too late for my dad. I hope your mum is in a better state and that something can be done:prey: .


I have tried to clean it off and thats when I discovered its in the inside. the dust black spot is between the legs of the running man;) I can wait Robby, even if it is after QLD astrofest in july.

:mad2: :shrug: I wished I had taken longer exposures to get more detail after reading a few other posts on different thread, but i am only learning ATM so I guess thats not too bad. I still need to process through IP and registar, I only stacked a few 1 minute and 30 second images in registar for this, just trying to learn its processes, it seems as though I cant tell the difference between average and mean?:shrug:

Mate that's a big improvement since you started.
Colours are more accurate and the trap area is not so burnt out.
Also it's around the right way, just like Stiker likes it.....:whistle: :poke: ;)

Don't worry I have a hard time distiguishing between average and mean sometimes.

There is also the fact of unsharp masking etc, when and how to apply, how mqany images is reasonable to stack, and how many is too much? What is the best was to layer an image smallest time first to largest exposure or vice versa or just one free for all? I took some dark frames ofr each setting as I was going, I will have to learn how to apply them, and how to do a flatfield?:help3:

finally had some time, I have reprocessed this image. Stacked and processed in Images plus, noiseworks community edition and cropped in photoshop. I now need to learn how to mask. all tho other shots I have taken since as SPSP 2006 were slightly out of focus and jittery due to blustery conditions. So thats why I reprocessed these images.:whistle:
