Hello all - lodge this one away for Halloween!
This is a bi-colour image of the eastern part of the Veil Nebula consisting of about 6 hours OIII, and 3 hours of Ha. Synthetic luminance was also used.

Again, if you want to have a look around the wider field of this region, you can do that here:

Planewave CDK 17, Apogee U16M, Astrodon 3nm OIII and 5nm Ha filters.
thanks for looking!

Insane detail Martin!
Just startling beautiful!
Can't stop looking at it.
Love the cropped version.
I really like bicolouration... Steve Canistras images done with his method some years back had me thinking this was the way to go without the extra channel.
Once more, a wonderful image!
All the best

Quite a detailed image, interesting how the o3 shows much more structured detail than the Ha , quite obvious here.
What's happening to the centre top, it's noticeably different ? I would have though if it's side on it would be even more defined.

A very wild looking image. Lots of detail. I find the background noise too high for my personal taste in the larger image though.

OMG,OMG,OMG!!!!
I've seen soooo many images of the Veil but that's....something else!
Perfect job.:D
Wow, now that really is special.
To be honest, I didn't even recognise the exact part of the field at first - everyone usually shows the whole of that part with the emphasis on the brighter Ha regions. Wonderfully original too.

I got a shiver down my spine when I first opened that up.
That is just astounding.
Talk about electric neon. Wow!
If I had to nitpick, I would say that the composition is a little unbalanced. The right-hand side seems to abruptly cut off into the frame. But, that's just me being anal.
Another corker, Martin.

That is wonderful, strong OIII and Ha really makes a difference. What is really cool is how bright this object is, we were looking at it with an OIII visual filter and an Obsession 18" and you can really see the tendrils. Your image really shows the depth of field!
Spectacular colours Martin with amazing detail.
A very enjoyable image.

Thanks all.
Ken - you are right. I thought I was going to have to accumulate hours of exposure with the 3nm OIII filter, but it just booms in. Believe it or not, I have not used curves on this image at all.
I think I did cut short on the Ha though, hence the background noise (Greg) - so I will go and get some more I think before I finalize this image.
Clive - I think what you are referring to is the red/blue 'fringe' at the top centre of the image? Well, that was clearly there in differing strengths in the OIII/Ha data, but I had to tease it out.
thanks again

Certainly shows the benifits of great seeing :eyepop:(and hardware). That sounds like it's about as good as it gets unless you were to travel to, Mauna Kea, La Palma or Paranal where it averages about 0.6" or so :screwy:.
Lovely sight indeed

Thanks everyone - made me smile.
Mike - the seeing at SRO is quite sensational. I am also keeping a record of clear nights and since 1 Aug we have had 2 partially clouded nights.
Last night, the seeing started off at 1 arcsecond, and stayed there all night long.:D
thanks very much.

Very nice detail, in the crop the illusion of 3D is present. I like the crop better than the larger image. Well done Martin.

Thanks again.
Paul - of course, this image was taken with a completely different telescope. The widefield version was done with an FSQ.

I some how completely missed that Martin. Such was the view of the nebula. Sorry about that. Yes I prefer the close up.
