Hey Louie, wow, amazing how much richness this little baby (excuse the pun) can pick up.
The Ha, albeit only an hours worth has really brought out some fine filaments... as well as the 'bubble' and given some nice depth to Ngc 2070. Nicely blended.
Star colours are perfect and well saturated. No sign of any CA.


Ok, the minor flex issue Btm L/H corner (the focuser tube I think you said).. but doesn't take away what this scope is capable of once you sort this.

Great stuff!

What are you doing about the focuser anyway?

Hey thanks mate! appreciate the your thoughts.

Ah,well I really don't think the issue is flex but more the focuser draw tube being out of square....this is going to be tougher to deal with.

I checked images taken with my ST8300 and the ML 8300 and both show exactly the same distortions in the same place.

I can't see any way to adjust the draw tube, so I'm contemplating pulling everything apart in an effort to find out ware the problem lies.

Cause,not looking forward to doing It but I feel the tilt is too severe for this scope to perform well....too much of the field is out of focus.

I strongly believe this is a manufacturing fault and If I researched the BabyQ before buying I would of found that these scopes were released on the market with issues! shame on you Tak!

So,I would not recommend the BabyQ to anyone out there unless they want a very expensive paper weight period!

Really nice. Great core. Love the colors you've got in the nearby cloud and the dark lanes too. Good stuff. :thumbsup:

Cracker. Lots of good bits to point out, crisp stars and color, I like the luminance of the main galaxy section, core of the main neb not burnt out yet showing good contrast, plenty of nice ha detail.

All up very nice. (the LH corner is a minor issue)

A really nice Tarantula Louie. You got a nice balance of colours there in your processing as the red nebula can easily be overpowering in this field.

Bummer about the focuser. It seems I have read a string of issues Tak have been having with their focusers on various models. Weird, their excellent focusers used to be their forte.

My FSQ106ED seems to be one of the good ones but I read about several with bum focusers that need adjusting. Usually it is tightening and there is a thread on Tak Uncensored Yahoo group on how to do that. I think I saved it if you are interested. It was the 2 screws on the bottom of the focuser that need tightening in the 106ED. Not sure if its the same setup in the Baby Q.

Perhaps packing out a screw on fitting in the weak spot may work. Spark plug feeler gauges are handy for this. You can get them at SuperCheap auto very cheaply and they are a range of metal fingers of different thicknesses.

Greg,thank you again ! yeah,I've checked some Tak threads out and the BabyQ just doesn't have the same adjustment screws as on the 106ED.

I couldn't find a thread that specifically talks about the BabyQ's adjustments...well,there ain't two screws on the bottom of the Baby as far as I can see.


The Spark plug feeler gauge is a great idea Greg...I'll grab one before I pull the Baby apart,and once I see how this thing works on the inside I can try some trial and error....If I'm lucky I'll pick the right corner first go.

And If I manage to find the right correction at the right corner? I guess I can cut some of the feeler gauge off as a packer.

This is the part of the hobby I don't like ! :lol:

I am not 100% sure but I think the image is upside down and reversed?

So that would mean the bottom left would be the top right on the scope?

As there is no diagonal your image would then be upside down. As far as left/right reversed I am not clear on this. Anyone know?

That should mean the packer needs to go on the top left if the image isn't reversed left/right or if it is too far out on the top left corner then you would have to pack out the remaining 3?

I was able to do this with my CDK. What I did was take focus images and in my case I was packing out the reducer which fits inside an eyepiece holder so it was quick to shift the packers out to different spots until I got round stars in every corner. I needed 2 packers and surprisingly thin - .15mm and 0.18mm.
