Well, after not setting up my scope for months but having bought dew straps (yep, sorry Ken, I couldn't resist the lure of the retail!) and making a 12v portable battery pack and really getting my head back into it this was gunna be the weekend.
Even as I sat at the MCG on Friday night watching the Cats demolish the Pies I couldn't help glancing up to see a cloudless sky. This is it I thought.
I spent Saturday building shelves in the house and putting in stumps for a shed, glancing nervously up at the high wispy clouds. That's okay I thought they'll blow through by tonight. Undaunted I worked through till about 6 and then got out the tripod, levelled it off and pointed it the right way (south, right?).
Got out the mount from it's new case, installed the scope, alinged the finderscope, roped it all off from the enthusiastic (slightly dim witted) labrador.
This was it. I was gunna ignore the footy on TV and learn drift aligning. This was the beginning was a whole new world of enthusiasm and commitment to my hobby.
Remi (Gina's 15yr old son) even tried to make the best of the situation by asking if we could still take photos of the moon - "would the scope look through the clouds" he asked.
It was hopeless, the clouds got thicker and I sheepishly packed it all up and gave in.
Bummer.
Fortunately the saints won and there's always next week. On the bright side - the shed stupms are in, bearers down and joist ready to hang
cheers and clear skies for all!
