I don't know why, but I've never imaged these before.
Anyways, here's my first effort, and probably the last using the ED80. It's a lovely scope, but I want DETAIL!! Not fuzzy smudges.
26x6min @ ISO 800
darks and flats used
stacked in DSS and processed in CS3.

As requested, a more saturated version has been added.
Thanks for the feedback. I really do appreciate it. :)

Added an uncropped version to show original size. (unprocessed)

Very nice work JJJ. Maybe some more saturation to bring out the colours.

Nicely done JJ. Given the image scale I think you have some nice detail there. I would agree with Paul. Maybe a touch more saturation would look good.

Cheers

Lovely image jjj.
Did you have to crop the image or was that the view you had.

Ken.

Hmmm... I am going to image just this group on the wekend (weather gods willing). Very nice, but your fov through the ed 80 must be larger than that?

Ooops, should have looked at all the images. Thanks for the view Jeanette.

I added a full size shot for comparison. Good luck with the weather though. :(

You've become quite an imager,
So where to from the ed80?

I'm leaning towards a WO, possibly the 132mm triplet, though I'm not sure if my mount would really be up to the weight. Otherwise I'll settle for the 120mm doublet.

After having a go at this object recently with the 120 ED, I think you've produced a great image there JJJ. Not the easiest target to get good data from.

Very cool field JJJ. Very nice details in the faint fuzzies.

Lovely shots JJJ,

You can always use the ED80 as a guide scope for your long FL future. That is my intention for my 80 triplet

Great result JJJ. Looks like you picked up some background galaxies there.

There's been a couple 132 scopes around and cheap compared to what they were when I bought mine, either way bigger scope = more detail:thumbsup:

Hi JJ

I agree with Steve, given the image scale, you have captured some good detail, indicating great focus.

Well done!

cheers

Great thread JJJ - I know almost nothing about these and you've done a great service showing the full FOV etc. Realistically getting decent detail on most galaxies required a fair focal length though - you can't always have your cake and eat it too. The ED80 has done a remarkably good job.

I am so jealous of your imaging time! :)

You are seriously addicted Astropotographer now JJ !
Time to go up to the next strength Astro-photography Drug .... :-)
This is why I have avoided Astro-photography (not enough hour in my night)
Great picture though ...it has inspired me to go looking for the Grus Quartet tonight at our observing night !
