Seeing was absolute rubbish but I wanted to test out a theory. I made a 60% aperture mask for the 11" SCT which works out to approx. a 5" aperture less the fairly big central obstruction.
Even though the seeing was sub par; 2-3/10 tops (I only saw a very brief 2 second period with seeing of about 8/10) I'm now starting to see granulation & surface details. Can't wait for nice seeing to test this out further.
Cheers.
Looks like the mask helped under those conditions.
Nice one SpongeBob.

Sounds like your adding another string to the bow there Asi.
Asi, years ago I experimented with a whole plethora of masks and one that produced interesting results was off axis.
Might be interesting to try a mask with the largest off axis hole you can cut that uses a section of your primary from its outer edge to the edge of your secondary to give you a totally unobstructed light path. You probably have already tried this but if not.....

Thanks Trevor. No, I must admit I haven't tried an off axis mask on any SCT as yet. I'm no stranger to all kinds of masks with a newt though.
Might be worth a look with the SCT later.
Cheers.

I've been thinking about masking the old C8 for solar ever since I got the PST and solar bug. I'm watching with great interest!

I do love your WL images as they are so rich in detail even with less than avg seeing.
John.
