Well the warning came out today that there was a prominence erupting on the solar limb and I managed to capture it just before the clouds marched in and spoiled the day.

There is plenty to see on the disk with some nice active areas but the prominence on the limb (at 2 o'clock on the limb) is the best feature for today. Take a look around the limb of all the prominence action. Seeing was not as good as on previous occassions, but still nice enough.

Thanks guys

Just trying to produce the best images I can in every field that I image. Besides the seeing has been utter crap here. ;)

I was watching this in the PST today. Even in 'the toy' it was an awesome sight.

Hey Paul, That's a spectacular catch! Really a great looking image with excellent processing! I really like your style of presenting the images. You should send it to Spaceweather.com and/or APOD. That flare sure make its worthy.

Where do you get your alerts?

Interestingly, the National Solar Observatory (along with Apache Point and the Sloan Digital Survey) is only about 2 hours from where I live. Been there a couple times.

Thanks for sharing.

Thanks Eric. The alerts come out through space weather if you are subscribed. I also just open up first thing in the morning on Space weather and read the call up for images. So I just got out there and did the capture.

I have submitted this to Space weather but and will have another go at APOD. I submit regularly to it and have never got an APOD yet. Not that really matters, it is the doing that is fun.

We don't have a national solar observatory, perhaps we could get funding for it from the Carbon tax we are about to get clobbered with.;)

I actually end up better off with the carbon tax compo, I may end up buying a better solar scope with the proceeds ;)

You're getting these full disk solar shots down to a fine art now Paul. Terrific detail across the disk and love the prominences. Nice judgement with the presentation of colour and saturation too.

Good stuff.

I suspect there are only two types of Amateur Astronomers...
..those who have discovered the wonders of H-alpha imaging, and those who have yet to discover astronomical objects changing in real-time ;)

Well captured Paul. It's a beauty.
