Canon 18-135 or similar cheaper lens

Looking for a inexpensive telephoto lens for my son,just bought him a Canon 600D,he is doing film and media course.So needs some basic gear.

Any sort of telephoto that's cheap to get him started-kit 70-300,18-135 etc.Nothing too flash.He sort of needs a focal length around the 100 mark.
So if anyone has an old kit lens rolling around they do not use,a student will really appreciate buying it.
