Hi
I’ve just completed another x3 avi’s from the magical night of good seeing on 18th Feb. Here is a 3 panel mosaic of Moretus, Curtius and Clavius with Amundsen on the lunar horizon
Equipment:
Celestron C9.25, Televue x2.5 Powermate
Philips ToUcam 840
Details:
18th / 19th February 2006
04:19 to 04:26 am AEST (GMT+10)
Capture:
K3CCDTools, 10fps, 1/25 sec. (x3 AVI’s)
Processing:
Registax, Wavelets 1:20, 2:10.
Mosaic created in Corel PhotoPaint 12, saved at 40% jpg compression.
Gee, these C9.25 OTA’s are good; not to mention the Brisvegas seeing
Cheers
Dennis
You've got to be kidding......

Beautiful.
I can almost feel the moon rotating underneath me in the space capsule :scared2:
Honestly, the moon shots you've been posting are an inspiration.
Well done, mate.

I'm with Rocket Boy! Geez Dennis you are truly lifting your game lately - how are you ever going to go back to ordinary seeing.
You're posting some of the best work to come out of this fine country of ours.
Incredible detail, clean, crisp and very nicely processed.

Actually I don't think the Apollo video was that clear. Some fine shooting there Dennis. :prey2:

Hey Dennis, I called the kid's over to see this, not something I usually do as they think astronomy is yawnsville. Well they were gob-smacked and thought you must have a way bigger telescope than Dad or be located on a mountain top or somethin... when they discovered you're using the same scope, powermate, same location etc as me... they now seem even less impressed with my efforts than usual. Damn you Dennis:wink2:
DOn't know if your familiar with that movie "the castle", but this one should be going "straight to the pool room"!:)

Striker

:eyepop::jawdrop::eyepop: (pick jaw up of floor) Forget the seeing! Where the hell are you getting clear skies from Dennis. I'm up til at least midnight most nights and it has been the pits here for weeks.
"Fantastic shot" gets used alot around here, but you have just set the bar for the use of that word. I don't expect to see it used very often round here now. Genuinely stunning Dennis.:clap::clap:

Dennis, I keep coming back to this image of yours. I think it's my all time favourite image of anything... and I don't say that lightly. Have you considered the David Malin awards?
cheers,

I'm with you Robert. I keep coming back as well. Dennis it truely is a stunning image. Definately entry into the David Malins.
Ya do know Dennis that if you enter it and win that will make two winning Malin awards that were seen here on Iceinspace first.
Eddie T's "Tarantula Nebula" and your "Moretus, Curtius and Clavius with Amundsen on the lunar horizon"

Thanks Mike – as you’ve seen from the avi’s that I sent to you, having a good capture is the key as there is very little else to be done after that, the image kind of looks after itself.
Hey Robert – I can do what I do ‘cos we have no Kids to distract me from quality time at the ‘scope. ;) Besides, you should show them your awesome Mars images and compare them to my pathetic efforts.
Hi Paul – Most of the good stuff has come from 3:00am onwards. The one night I turned in at midnight Robert captured his stunning Jupiter images. On my 2 magical nights of 4/5th and 18/19th Feb, there was constant intermittent cloud that kept rolling over the avi’s as they were being captured and I almost pulled the plug on the session. Hmm, glad I didn’t now.
Thank you everyone for the nice words of encouragement, they are appreciated. The seeing was so fine on 18/19th Feb that I could easily make out the 4 “large” craters on the floor of Plato on the notebook display as K3CCDTools was capturing an avi.
I acquired the C9.25 and ToUcam in September 2005, inspired by the work of the late Erwin Van der Velden who used the same set up. Of late, we have enjoyed some quite extraordinary nights of good seeing here in Brisbane, evenings that I would normally have characterised as “1 in 5 year” events; but so far, I have enjoyed two such events, on the 4/5th and 18/19th Feb.
Cheers
Dennis

Dennis I hate to admit but I already saved it and am using it for my background.... hope you dont mind but it is truly fantastic. I asked my F.I.L if he could tell me when/where it was taken and he was like... "Apollo 9 or 10???" lol

Dennis,
There are no superlatives to describe what you've captured here.
I'll simply leave it at "breathtaking".
Congratulations for image of the year, thus far.

Humayun
