Solar mosaic 22 August

Nice period of clear skies yesterday and was nice to see a couple of nice large proms on the limb with the activity on surface.
I think this is close to my best yet, slowly working to get better images of this wonderful star we call the sun.

That's very impressive Paul. The blending of the prominences and the disc is sublime. It looks very 3D near the edge. One of your best solar images yes.

Did you do any selective processing to the dark filaments? They seem to stand out , very 3D - just like Rolf said.

Very nice result Paul, would love to see some hi res images of the proms and hi res images of some of the active regions. Would you consider using the Flea3 to give us all an up close and personal of some of these really interesting structures which do tend to get lost in a full disk mosaic. Not that I don't like seeing the full disk, which looks great, but it would be nice to see some of these features in isolation occasionally.

You might be interested to know there is no blending of the prominence and disk data. All this data was captured in one sitting. I am using a setting on the etalon that allows for surface detail and prominence data at the same time. The prominences are not as bright but I feel this gives a more natural look. Having them as bright as Peter Ward gets would be nice though.

Erek, no selective sharpening, this is how it came out of the initial process. Some slight overall sharpening of the disk but nothing done selectively.

Thanks Trev. Actually I don't think the flea3 is the best tool for the job. I might do a hi res image at about 2 meters tomorrow of the active region with the DMK41. It is slower but I can take data for 2 minutes and little if anything changes in that time. Part of the sharpness is in the way I process the data in avistack which I just happened upon. So I will see what I can produce in the next week.

To me that's a good all-round solid image of the Sun and (all be it in Ha) it looks like what I expect the sun to look like, nice work Paul.

Stunning image, love these Ha scopes, I'd love to have one for next years transit of venus in June, I took the day off for the last one, the next will be the last in my lifetime..... One of these pics of the transit like what you've done here would definitely be one for the wall.
