Field Flattener for Orion ST80 APO

Hi All,

I am looking for some advice on a field flattener for an Orion ST80 (Not the ED but the APO that comes as part of the Orion Awsome AutoGuider Package), I have managed to get some reasonable shoots through the scope but can definitly notice the field curvature on the endges.

The telescope only has a 1.25" focuser barrell so the Field Flattener must be 1.25" and that is where I seem to be having trouble.

Any suggestions welcome.

hi grimmeister, i strongly believe that your scope is not an apochromatic (colour corrected) refractor as the package comes with pretty ordinary objective lens of f/5, i believe.
this scope is fit to illuminate the small sensor of a guide camera with the light of a star so the computer can keep these few bright pixels in check.
to add a $200 field flatner would be a waste of money, if you can actually find one that matches this scope.
instead get a proper scope for ap! the skywatcher ed80 i.e. the whole telescope is built for photography. if you want more widefield, get a televue 60is, that is an apo and has your wide flat field.
keep the st80 and use it as a guidescope.
what is your main intent for the st 80 with field flattner anyways?

Hi Max,

I didn't realize they would be that expensive, Ouch!!!, but yes spending $200+ $$$$ on a flattener for that scope is definitly a waste so will save my hard earn't cash for an OTA worthy of it.

As a side, I bought the ST80 with the guide camera for guiding but figured I would have a crack at imaging through it as well seeing it was there (I am still relatively new to the sport of AP so slowly building up the gear and making the most of what I have at the time).

In the mean time I guess I can always crop down the image edges where the curvature is noticable untill a better OTA is an option.
