Hi Everyone

The Celestron 8SE OTA I purchased last month has the serial number:

874076

It’s my 1st astro scope. I bought a PST the month before.

It’s a black tube with 6 fins/ridges on the back.

I’m told its from the 80's??, but I’d love to know more precisely.

Any info greatly appreciated.

Thx

Pete

Celestron SE series scopes weren't introduced until around 2005 and have an orange barrel. What you've got is usually referred to just as a "C8" (short for 'Celestron 8 inch').

I've never seen a Celestron serial number guide, but you may be able to spot the characteristic OTA style of yours in the following publication: Uncle Rod’s Used CAT Buyer’s Guide (http://skywatch.brainiac.com/used/used_sct.pdf) (5.42MB PDF)

My 8SE doesn't even have a serial number........? Bought it new from Bintel in March this year.

Neither does mine so I'm guessing it's normal.

Coming from a service department in another industry, no serial numbers is just asking for abuse when it comes to warranty claims. No way to confirm purchase date or manufacture date for warranty other than a piece of paper which could of come from anywhere.
