Some more fiddling :)

I worked on my Ha and Lum from my recent lagoon data set to see how deep I had gone.

The Lum shows up both dust and Ha while the Ha filter isolates the ionised hydrogen structures nicely

I have gone for a slightly dramatic contrasty look..for something different :)

This is 60min Ha + 120min Lum from light polluted inner Newcastle - there is extensive gas and dust around here.

Nice view.

I like that a lot Mike. Somehow the Ha introduces a really 3D effect.

Cheers

Superior work....reminds me of Gleason's Ha shots.

Cheers boys, yeh Johns work is the best Ha imaging out there Louie, of course mine is a Lum+Ha and the Ha filter I use is a 12nm where as John uses a narrower version I believe, so it is a little different result... my image is more like a mega-luminance :D

Yes cause Mike,It's more the distribution of brightness levels that reminds me of John's shots, although obviously John's have more contrast.

Yeh casue they have no dust in them only Ha :)

I only had 1hr of Ha so it wasn't deep enough even with 12" at F3.8) - I want deep, DEEP I tell ya!

So I also used the 2hrs of Lum :)

I'd say you didn't pay attention to the oven timer Mike. Image has been cooked for too long. Look on the bright side, there's no blue cast. :P:D

Gleason's AIC presentation from two years back had some great pointers for pure Ha image processing. Worth a look if you are so inclined.

So much nebulosity!

Adds a new dimension to seeing this old favourite of mine in a way I haven't appreciated before. Marvellous!

He he, yeh like a yummy lamb shank stew, cooked till the meat is falling off the bone :D..probably needed some more shadow highlights though ;)

John who..?

Mine was mostly lum though.

Cheers boys, just trying to show a common object a little differently ...all in the name of imaging fun :computer: :)

That's very impressive Mike. It looks deep indeed. The Ha+L really shows off all the little knots and globules! Fascinating :)

I will eventually get her under perfect dark skies and open the throttle ;)

Ultra deep OK. I quite like the contrast boost on this target. There is so much to look at and as usual you resolved even the faint bits very clearly.

Lovely image Mike.

Missed this.
Exciting view Mike!
Data looks spot less.
Like the accentuated billowing gas structures skirting the main part of M8.. also of note there is an almost super nova remnant type of structure at about 11 o'clock and just above left.

Love to see this finished off in NB colour?

All the best
Rich

Yeh spotted that filamentous bit too, looks a little like areas of the Vela SNR huh..?

It is in the more subtle colour version (http://www.pbase.com/strongmanmike2002/image/136792938/original)but the higher contrast B&W shows it up nicely

Like the colour version, the blue reflection nebula is present and heaps of detail showing through. I need to take another look at my data on this and rework the image. You have just some slight salmon to the right of the hour glass, but nothing dramatic.

Yeh?...salmon? hey I had some salmon ravioli last night and it was yummy :P

he he, sorry, ok where are you refering too..?

Just to the right of the hour glass Mike. That is a little salmon in colour.

Still fiddling eh Mike? Enjoyed the colour rendition very much. Pleased you backed off the Ha as it was too overdone. Would have been super contrasty to deal with. Not too fussed about the salmon as its cooked just right and there's no fishy smell. Well done.

Love the colour version Mike, just beautiful.
LOL who would've thought that there's salmon in that there lagoon !

Hey cheers Men

Not sure what all this talk about salmon is  ...something fishy's going on :P

Jase, the contrasty (L + Ha) version was meant to be over done a little to show up all the faint bits, it was too strong to use successfully in a full LHaRGB - as John Gleasons Ha only efforts would be too, different processing for different desired outcomes .
