"Close-but no cigar",or as Maxwell Smart would say "Missed it by that much".

This Qantas link passes our country property everyday (except Saturday's),at 5.30 pm,there are three days in three months of the year where there is a reasonable chance of a pass over.

Was late today setting up,and I could here the darn thing coming as I calibrated gear set my settings etc-I could see it was going to close, but not a pass over so in the last few seconds taped the SS2K,to at least get a couple of frames with all the plane in frame.

The new 50D,with 6 frames per second makes things a bit easier, all up got 8 frames with plane passing near the moon. The kiddies say they can make some 'movie thingy',but it wont be very long,I'll post it if there is any interest.

Hopefully either tommorow or next day will be better, but when one of the three days has a pass this close,it unlikely any of the other two will come close.Bit of fun:lol:

Chris,

I agree with David that it would be hard to top your winning effort from last year. However, you've got a bit more colour on the plane this time, and nailed the focus again.

Presentation is still quite good and the focus is excellant.

Hard to beat your original but I still like it.

Well done,
Darrin...

Thanks Darrin,Chris,David and Malcolm.

Yes,I think its most unlikely to ever get an image of the same calibre as the original.However-there is a UAE A 330 that passes over our property every night at 9.15 pm.I have never seen it pass a 20 day old moon (approx),but it does go close,I'd like to get a image of that-so its good to practice of this regular prop plane-till then.

Here is tonight's effort, the moon looked so clear and crisp through the scope.
Nice to be outside, did anyone in Brisbane area see the ISS at 5.56 pm? came up from the South and was visible for well over 4 -4 1/2 minutes,I lost site at 6.01 pm.Beautiful site! as it slip over the N.E,it really curved across the sky.

Caught the ISS at 5:54pm this afternoon in Canberra. Was stunning at -3.4 an 88degrees! Amazing how quick it can go over the landscape for you to catch it at 5:56 - 6:00pm

Chris - you must love that lens - is that the 400mm? Those photos of the moon are very nice - so sharp.

It's a cracker of a moon shot Chris. And the plane is like the cherry on top ( or below, but you know what I mean )

No,Adam-on these two images I have submitted on this thread,I used the 103 ED Vixen apo,on the GPD2 mount,SS2K tracking, cable release with 50D
The setting for last nights capture speed 500 iso 400,I was planing to go for a sharper image than last year, and forego the colour.last nights aircraft was a different livery-'Trans link airways, and a slightly different aircraft a MK II version of the dash 8,not the regular Q400.

Next few nights,I hope to get that UAE boeing 777 at 9.15 pm

Yes interesting to he Canberra members' notes on ISS,certainly quick from Canberra to Brissy area!!! 2 minutes or less.
