Hi All,

I noticed this add on Astromart

http://www.astromart.com/classifieds/details.asp?classified_id=411442

Someone looking for old space / rocket parts.

What is interesting is the first photo. Looks suspiciously like a propulsion system of some kind (the one that looks like a globe on a stand). Now look closely at the white printed sign on the botom funnel. Reads something like... "...USE ONLY" which might just read in full "FOR EXTERNAL USE ONLY" or "FOR OUTDOOR USE ONLY" quite a warning sign on a rocket? Makes me question who they think is actually going to use this thing.... Maybe is Russian but then again the warning is in English.

Makes you wonder...

Nah, I doubt it.

You used to be able to buy this kind of stuff cheap direct from NASA and the like. If it had problems or the program was over they simply sold it off at a jumble sale. There is some guy years back who bought enough of it he planned to put up his own launch site / platform as competition. Had 2nd thoughts when the first rocket went bang! Was on a documentary I once watched. I am sure if 20 years ago you could get that much stuff you can probably still get some of it now. It looks pretty old and dated to me.

Anyway he is buying not selling. Just thought it was an interesting pic.

You could attach it to your telescope and put it into orbit. Bit hard to look through though.

Thats where you want to go wireless. Attach an electronic focuser, and a CCD camera, make it all wireless and off it goes! Hubble II

Only problem is battery life and convincing NASA to make upgrade missions.

Actually just got a reply from the guy. You just have to see this web site.

Have a look at this for a collection of artifacts. Very impressive. Still waiting to see exactly what is written on the exhaust vent.

By the way its a....

the first item is an Apogee Kick Motor used for placing satellites into stable orbit and Trans Lunar Injection ..the second is the primary Orbit Insertion Engine for the Viking Mars Orbiter (this is a flight spare that JPL no longer required)..both are part of my collection
