Also in the news this morning ...
First observational test of the 'multiverse' (http://www.physorg.com/news/2011-08-multiverse.html)

At the risk of inflaming over-reactions, one of the major problems in designing the test is to overcome selection biases in the sampling of the CMBR/WMAP data used for the tests. (This not being, in any way, the point of this thread … but it is a crucial aspect of the test design).

A significant point is that it would be big news if they ended up ruling out the multiverse theories !

The paper is here. (http://arxiv.org/abs/1012.3667)

Only one problem with their test. Are they really only looking for other "universes" within their individual particle horizons...basically just other sections of this universe outside of ours. Or are they actually looking for completely separate universes. Seems to me they're just looking for the signatures of those other sections beyond our particle horizon and their impact on the CMB of our little area.

Have to read the paper.

That paper contains Bayesian statistics....this should be interesting.

You just can't seem to drop it, Craig.

Thanks Craig:thumbsup:.
My observation suggest we are in what appears to be a large box with air holes:eyepop:..looking out through one of those holes we seem to be in a childs bedroom on a shelf next to some large gold fish in a bowl many times larger than our box;)...
I find it extrodinary they think they can pull this off.
