3RF Australia (http://www.3rf.com.au/) will be visiting Lightning Ridge on Saturday 6 August to help out with an
Astronomy Outreach Event for the local community.

The main event will be held on the evening of Saturday 6 August 2011 at Lightning Ridge Central School,
and we're expecting numbers in the hundreds.

3RF Australia volunteers for the event are Tony Buckley, Gary Kopff and Lachlan
MacDonald from Sydney, Donna Burton from Coonabarabran, and Chris Wyatt
from Walcha.

3RF Australia will be providing one 18" UC Obsession and three 18" Classic Obsessions,
all equipped with Argo Navis Digital Telescope Computers, which Donna, Tony, Gary and Lachlan will run.
Chris will be bringing his personal 8" SCT. Chris and Donna will also be bringing solar telescopes for daytime solar viewing.

There will be some talks in the afternoon including by Chris who will
be providing a presentation on simple tripod DSLR astrophotography.
Donna will be talking on Australian Astronomy, and also on Vesta, as well as
introducing guest presenter Prof Ray Norris.

if you are in the Lightning Ridge area, we would look forward to seeing you there.

Best Regards

Gary i used to live at the ridge , you will find a bit light from the club & around if they are having it at the school , you wouldn't have to go too far out of town to get some spectacular skies

Gary - I've let Lachlan know via Facebook that I won't make it, but please make sure you try to pop in to the Black Queen on Sims Hill (Red Car Door E - http://www.blackqueen.com.au), near the new caravan park to meet my folks-in-law Gale and Roger Collins. They're a top pair, have great stories to tell and as part of their place run the largest and most precious oil lamp collection in the southern hemisphere. It's a must see. I'm still considering starting an operating observatory on the block next to them and offer public night tours of the sky.
