Hi Guys,

I have an issue with my ST4 port on my EQ5 Pro. When I plug in an autoguider into the ST4 port it will send signals to the RA motor but not the DEC motor. Also the controll paddle for the mount goes dead on the DEC arrows, but still alows me to slew in RA.

Has anyone get any ideas of what could be wrong? My thoughts where there is a short somewhere in the ST4 port. But I really not sure.

Thanks

Hi Des

After about two years of use my EQ5Pro mount suddenly when crazy slewing etc in the RA direction. After a lot of mucking about I downloaded the latest Synscan firmware from the net (as directed in the EQ5Pro instruction book).
To my surprise this completely fixed the problem. May be worth a try in your case?

Cheers Peter

Hi Des,
pjphilli's advice is good. Always have up-to-date firmware.
However, its pretty common to have a wire work loose or a contact bend in these fittings.
Sometimes the whole connector just needs to 'jammed' further into the socket, others it needs to be repaired or replaced.
Me and electricity go together like ham and housepaint, so it's worth doing some searching on the forum as this is a problem that's been bought up before.
Good luck!
Peter
