Solar mosaic in good seeing

I had better seeing today and with these large active regions present I just had to get some more data. That makes 5 images in the last week and I think I am ready to see some more rain now.

Peter, I have investigated this a little but am reliably told for prominences I unscrew the front etalon and use the internal etalon to record the prominences. As I understand this, I should get nice and bright prominences which I can mask into my images. Are you doing the same? I have not been doing this, just using the data that I get and enhancing which means I miss out on a lot of detail. My scope was factory fitted as double stacked, so hence I have not tried this before as I don't want to kill my eyes or my camera.

I'd disagree with your reliable source. :)

I leave my double stack system in place as I have found no gains in a wider band-pass.

You can go down two paths, expose longer and layer two lots of data
or
use a neutral gamma and process the same data in layers. Maybe I should give a paper on this in 2012's AAIC :question:

Ok that sort of goes with what I was going some time ago when I did an exposure for the proms and then one for the surface detail. Perhaps I will do that again. It worked before, I can do it again.

However, in principle the unscrewing of the filter should be safe with an internal etalon in place? The merits of whether it will produce better results is not an issue really just whether it can be done.

This is a great image Paul.

I prefer your look over some others becasue your Sun is a little darker orange and darkens more noticably and naturaly near the limb so that it looks more like a sphere, also you don't have that distracting red edge - so overall your Sun shot look more life like :thumbsup:...maybe I need to rethink our little bet :question: ;)
