I'm still getting used to basic solar photography and took a shot of the sun between clouds this afternoon. After taking the shot, I decided to play around in Photoshop with a plug in called Topaz Detail and got some very interesting results.

As I haven't worked out how to post on the forum and don't want to clag it up with potentially useless stuff, I've posted the shots on my web site here (the first shot is as taken, the rest with various forms of adjustment):

Topaz Detail allows a very wide range of adjustments to just about everything in an image, so the results can be quite surprising. The various levels of detail that come out are interesting and I haven't figured out what the bright parts NSW and E on the images of the sun represent (real aspects of the sun or image artifacts).

Top effort Ray, especially that you say you have not been at for that long, well done.

Thanks Leon

It's certainly the easiest star to photograph, but not necessarily easy to photograph. I'd really like to find out a bit more on what I'm recording in these shots (sunspots I know about). I'm especially curious about the brighter spots at the top and on either side in shots no3 and no5. I'm also surprised that shot no9 almost looks like one from a Coronada PST, though with not quite the detail.:)

Cheers
