Just back from Astrofest and in 3 nights only managed 4 hours of data
If I knew who invented USB I'd turn em inside out. I had never ending USB issues and appear to have popped 2 hubs and a usb-serial device. Also the clutch on the robofocus decided to start slipping so back to the bart mask. That's the way it goes I guess. I was planning to swap scopes on day two but the RC8 didn't get a run at all :(
I have tried to capture my first mosaic here on the veil, 2 panels at 372mm FL so I could see it all. Boy is it dim or what!! Blended the panels in maxim. These are the first versions, it might be a bit small here and I won't put up a bigger one just yet. Got a new monitor coming next week, this 17" really doesn't have enough real estate to work with.
8 x 5minutes subs each for RGB on each panel, no Lum.
FS-60, QHY9.

I Look forward to the final version, Robin. The previews show promise.
Unfortunately, I'm having a similar time to you. After the clouds finally started to clear, all the things that worked at home last night broke up here at Ten Chain. Hopefully, I'll manage to salvage something from the night yet...
Cheers,
Rick.

This should look pretty spectacular when it is done Robin. Maybe take a look at the red, perhaps a little red caste to the background.

An ambitious project. Best I have seen of this in the southern hemisphere. I suppose up at Brissie its a bit higher up but still low.
A couple of tips, there is an alignment problem on the image on the right midbottom. Stars are too large for the image so star reduction in your processing would help emphasis the nebula. Carboni star reduction tool.
Perhaps Ivo has something that helps there.
Greg.

Cheers Greg, I didn't even notice that on the laptop screen. It's low all right, geoff has a nice shot of it with a tree in the bottom of the image :) The misses broke her wrist playing tennis yesterday arvo so it looks like I'll have some time at home to fix it

Nice work, Robin. I know your frustration with equip problems - that's what killed me on Thurs night.
PS - thanks again for your help with Maxim.

Cheers guys, Had a fiddle with the overlap, it's got alot more field rotation in it that I was eggpecting, but looks a lot closer now. Also a bit of an odd colour cast on the left hand panel which gives more of the blue bits when removed by the looks. It's difficult to find a straight RGB image online, they all seem to have narrowband added. I also thought there'd be quite a few of these posted on here, I'm pretty sure everyone at astrofest had a go at it ;)
I was hoping to get that new monitor tomorrow but it looks like it's cat scans for Deb prior to wrist surgery instead

That looks better Robin. Do you have a link to a larger version as its a bit small to view.

No greg Sorry, need to figure out which step is doing this to the stars

That looks like morphological transformation -- very aggressive star size reduction.
Great project -- hope you can finish it off.

It looks like the artifacts that the minimum filter leaves.
Minimum filter is only good in really small doses. It leaves those wormy looking artifacts quite quickly. Not really a very good filter.
Ivo has some star reduction feature I think.
PixInsight has one as well as Humi pointed out.
I haven't played with it yet but I remember Rogelio pointing it out at AAIC.

This is as good as I can get it without tearing it to pieces. I started over and removed a few suspect subs so there is even less data in it. There is a larger version here (http://starshed.celticcomputers.com.au/gallery/albums/userpics/10001/veil-final2.jpg). It's about 3meg.
Is there a star reduction technique that doesn't use the minimum filter?
