Day 2 of solar imaging.
I caught sunspot 1260 at 11 am this morning. Then captured some proms, then captured sunspot 1261 after its big flare - still processing that. The avi file is tooo large.... (another lesson for me - what do people use to clip/split them?)
Then caught space junk or satellite transiting sunspot 1260 at 4pm. (Single frames showing here - first frame shows satellite directly connecting to sunspot - beginners luck eh). Have been trying for hours to identify it without success. Any suggestions?
All with pst and dmk21au with 2x barlow. Basic registax processing no photoshop.
cheers

Wow, what amazing luck to catch (and recognize) a satellite transit without planning for it!
Have you tried CalSky to try and identify it?

Hi Ivan
Thanks for the suggestion.
I joined up - searched for ages.. couldn't find anything transiting the sun at 4pm sydney time. :-(

Great start Karen you've got some great detail there. There's a fair bit of activity at the moment look foward to more. Is your pst a single or double stack?

Hi Karen - you lucky thing! I was flicking through your images before I read the post and thought you have caught something there - well done!
Thanks for the views!
Excuse my igorance but wihich dot(s) is the space junk?
And I think for avi files you can split/sort with Virtualdub - freeware.
Good resolution with the PST + DMK - this is what i have but difficult to see that detail for me so far.

Hi everyone
Thanks for the comments. Very motivating indeed :-)
Here is the 3rd day shot of my solar adventure. Quite a lot of cloud today so lucky i managed to get this at all.
I've changed the way i use the barlow. Instead of simply inserting the DMK into the barlow, I removed the lens of the barlow and attached it directly to the end of the shortened nosepiece. Lets me get more in the frame. plus now i know what its like when i get past focus - withe the barlow and dmk together i think i got focus at exactly at the end of range.
I also found out how to set the processing area on registax to 1024 instead of the 512 it was on. So i can keep all of the image. JOY
I've discovered wavelets too - so had a little play with that as well. Still no real idea what I am doing but its fun experimenting - i really like those aha moments that bring the image to life. I've colorised this one as well.. I've left the areas that have come up white i guess its over exposed etc etc etc -but i like the feeling of the effect..
So this is DMK 2x barlow and PST - this time with the double stack. The others were not double stacked. (boy it cuts out a lot of light).
Hope you enjoy it.

Good stuff Karen. Yes I do that sometimes; screw the barlow elements straight onto the camera nosecone. This gives you less FR/FL & will also help in combating crook seeing conditions to a degree.
The other way with registax is to press "do all" before saving the final image.
Are you using version 6 of Registax?

Hi Craig,
Excuse my igorance but wihich dot(s) is the space junk?
You have to look at the three last images - you can deduce it from the difference between the three - its very hard to see in the first one as it is appears to be touching the sunspot
And I think for avi files you can split/sort with Virtualdub - freeware.
thanks - my files are way too large and registax 6 doesn't handle them well.
Good resolution with the PST + DMK - this is what i have but difficult to see that detail for me so far.
Yes you don't get this on the laptop screen - I discovered today that the detail comes in wavelet processing.. ahh all the secrets i still have to discover.!

yes version 6. I cant see what the do all function does at this point?? I use it because it says to do it in the tutorial but i cant see any discernible impact.
thanks

Hi Karen:
Nice images and very good capture. Congratulations!
Greetings
César
I found the satellite now.
So I need to process images to get that extra detail. OK maybe for learning later. The shots of the limb, you have here, are what I see on my laptop.
Thanks
