Heard a owl or something outside thumping its beak against a wood post.I figured it would be killing prey,a quick look showed me a Tawny Frogmouth with frog. But how to get an image?

Wanted to change to the 70-200,but no time,so came up with an idea-400L and 50D ready to go-attach EX430 flash,-manual mode, iso 640,speed 160 AV 6.3,and just hoped it worked-oh and ask wife nicely to hold torch.(who is starting to get grumpy-as I am cooking a tea-'mean while ,while Chris's Family staves...'-so I am 'on the fly',-and in hostile zone.

So I hope this is of interest, was pleased to get an image!-frog looks like a Scarlet-sided Pobblebonk- 'Limnodynastes terraereginae'

That's a stunner Chris - what a great catch! And a Frogmouth with a frog in its mouth. And the feather detail is gorgeous. Well done.

I feel I am missing out with my 70-200 limitations....

This is awesome mate.

Hi Chris,

Great capture whilst under pressure to get it done quickly.

The Frogmouths don't seem a particularly shy bird and great to see this one
was so co-operative with the pose.

Amazing capture Chris.

I agree with Gary they are certainly not shy, I had one wandering around on the verandah one evening not more than a metre away from me.

It seemed more interested in checking around the pot plants for frogs no doubt and didn't really care a hoot about me.
