Can anyone recommend some (oops - pressed the wrong button.)

... places to go on Sydney's northside where better viewing can be found?

I've been told that the dog training park on wakehurst parkway is good, as is the park on mccarrs creek road.

Can anyone comment on this? Are there any good sites to go when observing in Sydney to avoid immediate light pollution?

You have asked a very good question...not sure there is a good answer...

I use my backyard...not such a good spot.

The are a group that meets regularly about an hour (or so) outside of Sydney (see some of the other posts in Star parties and observing section about Kulnura... however it is spelled)...it is pretty good and always lots of good helpful IIS company...

The Northern Sydney Astronomical Society has viewing nights at the North Turramurra Golf Course. I've never been but you might try and contact them...

I'd be anxious to see what others suggest too.

Clear Skies...

Hi Yagon.

Come up to Kulnura, we're going this weekend (there's a thread in the star parties forum). It's about an hour north of sydney, but it draws a good friendly crowd with skies that are fairly dark given its proximity to Sydney.

There's 240v power and toilets there.

Depends where in Sydney you live. If its the western suburbs think about a run up to Linden in the Blue Mountains this Saturday. Info on location is in the Club Calendar link on the WSAAG web site http://www4.tpgi.com.au/users/wsaag/

As for local viewing sites, its generally the backyard with suitable shielding to keep direct light from the neighbours at bay.

Good luck
