Omega Nebula new version

This was taken over several nights a few weeks ago.

HaLRGB 105 120 60 60 60.

Planewave CDK17, FLI Proline 16803, Paramount ME mount.

The Ha image shows that the Nebula is really one longer nebula with a dust area blocking the top and the main
part. Its most visible in the regular sized Ha image.

I have this one lined up next, a fine image and this nebula looks really bright compared with M16. Like the outer arcs you've caught, those black patches look really black compared to v bright swan part. Stars a bit greeny/blue though.

You never stop imaging and with that quality I can see why.

Bit fluoro for my tastes Greg. You also have some black rings around your stars too. Maybe a repro is in order.

Edit Just wanted to add that I found this object the hardest to combine Ha with LRGB. I think I had to do several combination of LHa to get the tone looking right. Tough target Greg.

Have to admit I agree with Paul. The colour of the nebula isn't quite right and the stars have a "pasted on" look about them. I do also agree that this is a tough one for blending in Ha. I don't think I ever got it completely right when I tried it.

Excellent resolution and details Greg. I don't mind the colour. Didn't see the first rendition so can't compare. Colour confidence comes to mind as the tones are strong and defined. A visual treat, especially the Ha data set. Well done.

Beautiful image! I've noticed too how Omega is a lot brighter than M16, there is really a remarkable difference.

Nice job on a hard target Greg. I spent several hours trying to get star colour somewhere near correct after adding the Ha.
It looks a very easy target but is a lot harder than it looks to get somewhere near right. In just RGB it seems to be lacking but with the addition of Ha it does give this largely red target a real lift.

Its come up very nicely.

Yes now the colour is very good. More natural look to the image and to quote another you are respecting the light.;) Stars look good too, although some elongation (stacking?). This one is so much better.

Yes - this is a big improvement and looks much more natural. However there seems to be a slight focus shift between the top left and bottom right (only noticeable in the large version). In fact the focus of the bright yellow star in the top left looks quite soft. It's definitely a nice image but perhaps I'm feeling ultra critical today.

Yes it is quite a bright nebula especially the "spine". Its easy to blow it out.

I found the luminance is a bit weak. Also definitely a no moon target even though it is fairly bright.

Hehe yes. Some elongation may be present in the very top left corner as I recall. I think its collimation or a bit of flexure. I have recently recollimated the scope but not imaged with it yet. I also had an issue with some shims falling out from the focuser baseplate when I accidentally loosened it and I put them back in but perhaps not 100% in the right spot. Planewave has generously offered to swap the focuser with one known to be true. Generally I get round stars with this setup to the corners but after the shims there was some elongation. Its pretty minor now and after recollimation perhaps none.



Thanks Ross. I usually do spend some time planning out composition. I usually check other images of the object on the net seeing which ones I like. I also always do a test image to make sure I am happy with the framing before I commit to several hours of imaging.



I'll check it out Steve. As mentioned above it could be a little bit of flexure or perhaps collimation a tad off. I recollimated since taking this image so I will find out soon how it worked out.

Yes, this looks really gooood Greg!
Nice tight stars and like the faint wisps of nebula that dissipate to the outer extremities that you've delicately processed.
Lovely colours.... didn't see the last version.

As I've mentioned before, this is not a real favourite of mine, but this is quite appealing!

Looks as though you've sorted your issues with the scope which is great to see.

Great going Greg. The repro is really starting to bring out the blues in the tendrilly bit in the middle now which I love. I was hoping you'd turn the planewave onto this one. Ha data is impressive too.

Yes I like that central soft whispy spine area with its light colours.

Looking at the Ha again it may be a good idea to image this with an
infrared filter as it may pierce that dusty black cloud that makes it look like there are 2 nebulas there when it surely is one with a dust cloud over it.
