Hello all,

I just recieved my saxon dob6 and I have a few questions:
How do I go about attaching a canon digital slr camera to it? What sorts of accessories would I need to get? How does it work with the eyepieces, I'm assuming I take them off, so how do i get the same magnification with lets say a 10mm eyepiece?
Also my scope came with a 2" addaptor, what is that for, cameras?

Hi Jo.

Attaching the camera to it isn't a big problem. There are plenty of adapters around to do that. I'm sure Bintel or someone similar would have them. But if you are going to attach the DSLR to the dob you are probably going to be disappointed unless you're only going to image the Moon or maybe Jupiter or Saturn. If you're dob is on an equatorial platform you could do widefield by piggy backing the camera but Prime focus (what your describing) really needs and equatorial mount and tripod for success.

The two inch adaptor is for 2 inch eyepieces. Just put it away somewhere in case you get 2 inch eyepieces down the track.

Would you still get the same magnification when you attach a camera as you would see with a 10mm eyepiece? Do the attachments do that?

i have heard that you will get around the same as a 40mm / 50mm eyepiece.

At prime focus, the webcams are like 6mm eyepiece ie high magnifications.

dslr's are wide field at prime focus ie low mag. you can get attachments from astro optical from memory called "digi-t" that can connect your eyepiece to the camera. you will get higher magnification that way, but the object will move across the camera a lot quicker.
