I took this one a while ago but one panel had considerably less exposure than the other. I took more images a while ago and only just now caught up with the processing.

2 panel mosaic, HaLRGB 14.5 hours total.

CDK17, Proline 16803, Paramount ME.

Mate, that, along with your widefield version of this, are probably your best images, yet.

Daaaamn! :)

Thanks Marc. After the AAIC I decided to lift the bar on my images and go for longer/deeper versions of everything. This was taken before it but it is quite a long exposure.

Gee thanks Humi. Which widefield is this - is it this one?

I also did one with the TEC180.

Thanks Ross. Mosaics really add something and I think its a direction I want to head in very often.

Thanks Tom. That means a lot.

Beautiful image Greg. Really like how you've captured the transition from light around the bright stars to the dark dust on the right.

Thanks Peter.

It was a lesson in making sure each panel has the same exposure time for me. Perhaps there are times when you can get away with different exposure times but this wasn't one of them.

Another problem with mosaics with long focal length is different seeing levels on different nights.

It all makes mosaics just that much harder to do.

Photoshop CS4 and above make mosaics though relatively easy. Just process each panel the same way and let Photoshop stitch it then perhaps a few stuble tweaks - especially correcting any gradients.

This was not done with luminance then RGB separately but rather 2 images processed the same way then stitched. It may not be a good way for a large panel mosaic though and I'll use the luminance layer as one mosaic then match the rgb to it approach.

A few gradient removal techniques will help a lot. There are several.

Yikes Greg! :) Very nice indeed! I'd love to see it larger than what PBase gives you. There's some real depth to that image.

Very nicely done Greg but it would be nice to see it in a larger size.

I agree with Chris, love to see a larger version than you have made available..you know, most images look ok small ;).. but its clearly a good result from what can see anyway
