Looks like we're all in for some yucky weather over the next few days. Could be a good time to do some of that astronomy orientated maintenance we've been promising ourselves to do.
Just got this image from the BOM

In recent history in Melbourne theres usually just one or two clear sky nights in any monthly dark sky period. Last month was the exception and were spoiled for once.
Point is, if you see a clear dark night, seize the opportunity because a year is a long time to wait for your favourite dso's to return

Luckily (probably coz were up in the hills) we dont get as much cloud as Melb.
We also have about 450 metres of less atmosphere to look through, no smog at all and very little (or none) light pollution.
But winter is our downfall! Fog, fog and more fog. We get a hell of a lot of it. And because my town is in a slight valley it often doesn't go away. It just fills the valley up 24 hours a day.
But when it is clear in winter - WOW!
