Greg's image of the Lagoon caught my interest as I imaged it a few weeks ago with the same sensor, though a much smaller scope.

I didn't have the time for a marathon effort.... just 20 minutes infact.

What surprised me was the S/N is still pretty good, despite way less photons coming down the pipe.

I've posted the image in HD res, so yo'all can have a good look :)

Lovely field of view. Some minor noise present but with only 20 minutes of data I am impressed with the minimal amount of noise. I think I prefer this field of view over Greg's and your previous version too.

Thanks Marc, Paul.

Just to be clear, I'm not trying to take any wind out of Greg's CDK sails....but I agree, many objects are sensitive to how they are framed, which usually means a different focal length and aperture to capture varying objects in their entirety (though high quality extenders or reducers can indeed make a single scope very versatile)

Smaller apertures are hardly fatal with CCD's....you just have to take longer exposures, but it seems, not that much longer! :)

Know what your saying mate. TSA, needs looonnng exposures. Still does a great job for a 4" though.

Surprisingly similar given the aperture and exposure difference.

Refractor FOV is still a very appealling view for many objects.

A very nice image.

Greg.

Agree with Greg, surprising result for such a short exposure and "small" aperture. Your camera seems to work very well too with very low noise..

Thanks Marco. By the way... your deep sky work is simply excellent

Yes, it's a remarkable level of detail given the exposure time. Then again the AP155 is probably the best 6" refractor ever made IMHO, so I guess I shouldn't have been surprised! :)

A very clean image Peter. Well done.
