Hi guys

I've had an email from someone who is doing some research for her boss about "Astro Tourist" or "Astro Farm" spots in Australia.

That is, somewhere to stay, with access to amateur/professional astronomy equipment nearby that can be used.

Where are the places in Australia that do this?

cheers

There are a couple of places at Coonabarrabran I'm pretty sure.
My astro homestay won't be up a running for a while yet though. :D

Zane Hammond's "Magellan Observatory" in Lake Bathurst, NSW is a treat. It sports a fully-kitted observatory in a dark-sky location for both visual and astrophotographic use, and a very comfortable self-contained homestay a few hundred metres away. He leases it by the month, so a holiday of reasonable length for several people or groups can be had there, and over that period it's truly excellent value. I will testify to its quality - it got me into astronomy again after a very long hiatus. Zane is a fountain of knowledge and keeps the place in top condition.

Rating: AAA

There is this place in Stanthorpe.
I have no connection with it I just have it bookmarked for future reference.

Is Magellan back up? Last year I enquired about it, and it was no longer being offered. I hope it has come back online.

Shane - Zane posted here a couple of weeks ago stating that he was offering Magellan Observatory and the homestay to groups or individuals by the month. His intent is that people time-share it for longer periods rather than just a weekend here and there. Come and go as you please for a whole month? Yes please...

I'm considering going there and I live in Melbourne Australia.
