my best ever JUPITER - Sequence Feb 18

Hi All - Finally broke my rotten run of luck with Jupiter this morning. Left the Mewlon 180 out to cool over night and rose at 3.30am to thin but full cloud cover. Was on my way back to bed when I thought, bugger it, I'll image through cloud if I have to I'm so sick of no astronomy - I also had fresh in my mind that time a couple of weeks ago when I packed it in and Dennis scooped the planetary pools ;) In a reversal of the normal run of things by the time I got setup the cloud had gone to reveal 8/10 seeing. :) Reeled off 20 avi's over an hour - still a fair bit to process and some tweaking to do, but pulled four shots that span much of the sequence into one pic below.

1,2 and 4 were 1/10 s exposures at 10fps and the 3rd was 1/10s exp at 5fps- I think you Can see the extra detail in that one.

Anyway I'm as happy as a pig in Mud :cool: , these are easily the best Jupiter's I've produced - even better when you consider they were take with just a 7inch scope!

Well done - you have captured a superb set of images there! I'm really pleased that you had the great seeing last night; I had been feeling slightly guilty for my good fortune 2 weeks ago. Now you can share some of the guilt with me. :wink2:

It is lovely to be able to see your work after I gave up at 3:00am. I must say, a part of me is secretly relieved; I don’t have a bunch of avi’s that I have to grind through the Registax mill :zzz:

Great job, superb processing and great presentation; especially for the 7 inch as you mention. :bowdown:

And I know what you mean, got quite a few hours of chugging before I've got through all the avis - but you know how it is when the seeings good, you just can't help yourself pushing the capture button for "just one more";)

rob, i tend to agree with ice, these are some of the best ever. The smoothness of detail is awesome. now this is not softness, this is clarity!!!! top focussing!

there are going to be so many cd's passing in the mail this month playing with all the data.

I definately am going to try and grab all jupiters, arrange on a page, work out processing to make sure the printed version are just like this and then print out an official IIS jupiter 2006 poster.

The only way to choose between bird and dennis and now this one is to have on a page at the same scale. In a way i don't want to judge between them, they are all excellent!!!

Thanks DP - PM me your address if you want a CD with avi's to play with. Your recent jupiters are easily in this class too, and like you I wouldn't want to pick between them, Dennis's, Bird's etc. They each seem to have particular stand out strengths and special features, not to mention different setups etc supporting capture. What I do know is there's no way, even with great seeing, that I could have produced shots like this last year. It's only since joining IIS and seeing what was possible and picking up innumerable little tips from the crew and both challenging and supporting each other that I've been able to be a part of what appears to be a surge forward in quality across the group. It's all Good!:)
