Like about other 100+ souls, I just finished enjoying a truly exceptional 3-day weekend at the AAIC.

The event in general shined as a True top World Class event. If there were any hiccups, I at least didn't see them. The quality of the presentations was top notch, the venue was also excellent, all the behind the scenes work seemed to deliver more than what a demanding attendee would want to receive... Even the food was great! I'll tell you, it was hard to believe this was the first time this event was happening here, and Mark surely made it look sooo easy, but we all know it's not easy at all!

And of course, with all that dissemination of knowledge also came the opportunity to talk shop with like-minded people for three whole days. Like someone said, this was like a star party without the stars - but the talks making up for that.

At a personal level, well, let's face it, there are many MANY other imagers out there whose names would shine brighter in a conference program than mine, so when Mark invited me to this event a few months ago, I felt so incredibly honored. I really did all I could (well, ok, I'll say it again: I can do things other than talk about PixInsight, I swear! :) .. but that's another story) and I hope my small contribution to the event was at least not too far from what you were hoping to "get".

Just like many people here, I too was able to meet face to face with some people who I have known for a while only as a name and written words - I don't want to mention any names because I would probably forget some at this moment and it wouldn't be fair. But this too was very enjoyable as I'm sure others also feel.

As a three years attendee at the AIC, and although I know some AIC folks may end up reading this, I'll tell you that this event had nothing to envy to the almost 10-years old AIC... It was just that good. Well, it maybe could use a few more sponsors but after the success of this first AAIC, I don't think that'll be a problem for future AAICs.

One of the many things that I really enjoyed was to see how Mark managed to put together a panel of local presenters covering such diverse - yet related - topics, but at the same time, so much filled with valuable and interesting content! Mark your decision to bring a couple of "international" speakers wasn't a bad one (after all it's what brought me here!!! :)), but the quality of the talks wouldn't have suffered a bit if you had kept it "local". I'm not encouraging you to do that for future AAICs, I'm just stating a fact.

And although we'll be leaving to the States way too soon (this coming Tuesday), if there's one thing I know is that after this first visit to Australia, I will certainly come back, although next time, rather than a hotel conference room, I'll most likely be seeking dark skies :).

Thanks EVERYONE for making my family and I feel just like at home, I sincerely appreciate it!!

Rogelio

PS: Now, driving on the "other" side of the road, that might take me a while getting used to  :)

Was lovely to meet you, Rogelio.

Thank you, so much, for your wonderful presentations!

You've sold me on PixInsight.

Hey Rogelio,
yes, this was a truly exceptional event, made possible only by the vision and hard work of Mark and his family (Hi Deb, you can smile again, we loved it!) and of course the major sponsors...a huge thankyou to Greg Terrance of FLI cameras, and the other sponsors who took a risk with us.

My thanks also go to you and Ken Crawford and your families for putting your trust in us, and your efforts to even get here...it's a long and boring flight across the Pacific....and your excellent presentations. I'm looking forward to more in the future.

My only regret is that there wasn't more time to meet everyone, especially the IIS'ers I missed out on catching up with. I managed a few, but unfortunately not all of you. It was great to put a real name and a face to those of you that I did manage to meet.

Now, if only I can remember all thise things that I was inspired to try and to do....definite info overload occurring here in my little head.

Thanks for coming! I missed your talk on Friday, but seeing just a snippit of how PixInsight works on Sunday, I'll definitely be giving it a look.

Look forward to seeing you back here under dark skies sooner rather than later.

Your live processing presentation was inspiring Rogelio along with everyone elses for that matter. I have just started out in Astrophotography and really astronomy for that matter. Since the prensentation I have installed and played with Pixinsight (trial) and I am finding it much easier than photoshop to learn. I tried PS first after Kens presentation as I was thinking this would be most usefull to learn given you can use it for other things but I just got frustrated very quickly.

One thing that I learnt quickly last night was you cant turn bad imaging data into good data :)

I think that is the area that I will need to work on as a new starter to AP.

Until then I would love to get some good data to have a play with in pixinsight. Does anyone host raw data online?

Also wondering if we can organise a discounted price for pixinsight for conference attendees or iceinspace members?

Thank you Rogelio for taking the time to share your knowledge with all of us and for the few chats we had outside.
Im too sold on PixInsight because of your presentation.
Hope to be lucky enough to bump into you again some day.

hehe - the grinning horse has come "downunder". :D

Thanks so much for coming Rogelio. Was truely a pleasure to be able to "talk shop" and pick up so many little (and big) tips on how to drive PI. I think your talk on composition and putting some thought into planning is likely to have some far reaching effects on Aussie amateurs too.

Just loved the impromptu processing sessions too. Glad you seemed to have had fun too. :)

It was great to meet you too Rogelio!

I can't speak enough about what it meant to have you there. And Ken and Greg Terrance for sure ...

And Mark's efforts. What can I say... he's not a man, he's a machine! And he's done huge service for Australian astrophotography, I think.

It's really great to hear that you enjoyed yourself. The entire three days seemed to be ear-to-ear grins and high spirits from everyone there.

Fantastic!

BTW Rogelio, I have a JPG here and I was wondering if you could process it for me....:)

Rogelio,

As I didn't get an opportunity to thank you in person I'd just like to let you know how much I enjoyed both your presentations. I especially liked the second one which I found both entertaining and informative... not that the first presentation wasn't entertaining!!

Thank you for taking time to travel to our part of the world,

Best wishes,
Mario

Well, I have weighed it up and I think I will just buy the program, at a bit over $200 its reasonably priced anyway given features and polish. Have been giving the trial a work out. Some great tutorial vids available for it.

It was great to meet you Rogelio. I have been inspired by your images for some time. It was good to see your processing demo with PixInsight and once I get the DVD I will go through it in more detail with the program.

I am glad you had a good time in Australia as well. Just think of all those wonderful southern targets you could image here!

Greg.

There's always the data from Jim Misti:
http://www.mistisoftware.com/astronomy/index_fits.htm

Currently down, but just temporarily.

Well, I don't know. As you all know, I'm just a user, I don't speak for the PixInsight team in any way, so this should be something that would need to be asked to them. Still, I think that the software is priced just right, especially if you compare it to the price of other applications that cost nearly the same but only have a handful of features. That's just my opinion though.

Sure, as long as I can use Photoshop for that one ;)
