What's TDI imaging all about? Is it at all conceivable that one day we'll be assembling widefield images in strips using this technology? Taken even further would you even need to track/guide if the electronics become sensitive and smart enough.....

Maxim even has a TDI tab now

CCDSoft has had it for a few years as well.

You'll want an SBIG (http://www.sbig.com/pdffiles/ST7-9ICameraApps.pdf) camera for that Rob but forget differential flexure hello differential trailing.

Cool. Thanks Robin. Didn't realise it had been around so long.

TDI - aka drift scan imaging has been around for a while - http://www.driftscan.com/ is one example.
The technique has not taken off for capturing dim objects as you would need multiple drift passes to build sufficient signal thus its not seen as a replacement to continuously build pixel charge through RA motion w/ guiding etc. Still, TDI is can work well for photometry.

That maxim tab became active when I had the ST8300 so I looked it up :)
