Mount for AP - who needs one? (TDI imaging)

What's TDI imaging all about? Is it at all conceivable that one day we'll be assembling widefield images in strips using this technology? Taken even further would you even need to track/guide if the electronics become sensitive and smart enough.....

TDI - aka drift scan imaging has been around for a while - http://www.driftscan.com/ is one example.
The technique has not taken off for capturing dim objects as you would need multiple drift passes to build sufficient signal thus its not seen as a replacement to continuously build pixel charge through RA motion w/ guiding etc. Still, TDI is can work well for photometry.
