I played chicken with a bunch of cloud this morning... it finally got scared and cleard off about 30 minutes before sunrise, leaving me able to grab a couple of runs on Jupiter before it was too late.

Seeing was pretty bad all up, I missed the best seeing by about an hour or so I reckon thanks to the cloud. Here's the best image from this session.

Very nice Bird - I retired at 3:00am as the cloud cover was almost 100% and the seeing had deteriorated. Nice to see the results of your zeal.

Cheers

Still a good result despite the seeing, Anthony.. Loads of detail.

Luckily it was clear here all night, got a Europa transit and the GRS peeking around the corner. Also got ganymede with detail, hopefully :)

I don't know what's wrong with us though, getting up at 4am on a weekend after getting up at 4am for work all through the week !

Look forward to your next effort Anthony, just love the image scale.

the seeing went off here too at around 5.30, plus i found tracking in alt/az mode was difficult is it was getting too high in the sky.

still a great image bird!

and yes mike we are mad. i got up at 5am without an alarm and went out!!

Nice detail Bird, there certainly seems to be much better seeing in those few hours just before dawn. Don't know how you stay awake through the day though, must be youth on your side.:zzz:

Great shot as usual Bird - awesome Image scale too! :) I take it this was with your 13inch and the dragonfly. What are using to image up - a 5x powermate? I tried the 4x powermate this morning in the Mewlon, but even at 8/10 seeing the image was breaking down. As the Mewlon is F12 it would be running close enough to F50 with the Mewlon and not enough mirror to fill the image. Hopefully will get some good seeing to see if F40 on the C9.25 is doable.

cheers,

Yes, I'm using the 13.1" these days, I can't switch back to the 10" without some surgery as I had to swap the focusser across.

I'm usinga 5x powermate with a filter wheel and short extension tube on the output side which gives me something like 6x or an effective fl of about 11m @ F34. I could probably get to F40 under excellent seeing conditions but we haven't had any of those yet ...

Hey Bird

Glad you managed to capture something... anything at all!

I stayed up all night but gave it away at about 5 coz of the cloud. Can't believe I packed up just before some opportunites came along. Ah well, that's the way this caper goes.

Just when you turn your back...:mad2:

Rob

Could you explain what you're talking about in regards to F ratios and mirror sizes as far as image quality is concerned?
