Hi All,
Tried my 80mm refractor on the moon, not as good as the DOB for finer detail but has potential.
This a live view multiple JPG using APT and the Canon 450D.
Will have a high rez version on the website sometime soon.
Thanks for looking

Have further processed the image and then reprocessed. The best overall result has come from Registax Version 6 which is a lot easier to use than the earlier version.
The one feature which has allowed this 80mm 480mmFL to produce reasonable image is the Resample feature which is slightly better than 2 x Drizzle.
I tried to resample at 4 x bit it was really pushing the limits of the computer. With better cooling I may have another go.

Nice Malcolm - as you say, certainly has potential. Will you be trying it at longer fls? Regards Ray

Thanks Troy and Ray, already have some from my DOB. Unable to use it at the moment so I purchased the 80mm for wide-field shots

Nice Malcolm.
I'm going to try the moon shortly with my 80mm but with a 2x barlow to compare it to my 8" SN. Some of the single frame moon photos coming out of many refractors here seem to be much sharper than an equivalent FL Newtonian.
Would you consider trying to barlow your 80mm?
Cheers,
Darrin...

Thanks Darrin, at this stage I believe my DOB can produce better images although I would consider and MPCC or Powermate for close ups, but am considering getting a longer FL scope later anyway possibly a Newt.
In the meantime I will continue on with wide-field with the 80mm. I have a 3 x Barlow, may give that a go but this would weight down the end also would need to get a 2" diagonal or another spacer.
