First DSLR wideview.

Took a quick and dirty snap of around Scorpio with my new Canon 600D.

11x15sec subs at 6400 iso and 18mm lens on a normal tripod.

Had to crop the hell out of it due to movement and field rotation and the noise is pretty bad but other than that what ya recon?

I reckon it's a cracker of a shot for your first light. :D
How about next time, drop the ISO down to 800, and keep filling your card with those 15sec subs. 70 or 80 or more will really help with the noise and bring out the colour more.

Thanks JJJ, as this was just a play around to see how everything was running that was the exact plan of action for the 'real' shot :) as well as getting out of the city and waiting for the moon to set properly :)

As JJJ said, get bucket loads of those short subs...the more the better.

Also, just point the camera in the general direction of South and let it go for 5-10 minutes. Then you'll get some great star trails:)

Thanks everyone, it not bad for a quick and dirty test shot under the street lights. The plan is to head out this weekend to one of my usual dark spots and after the moon sets to take a ton of proper subs.

To get anything close to JJJ's awesome pics is the goal :)

I was thinking last night when I was taking the few subs how nice it will be to have the programable remote I have ordered to just let the camera do it's thing instead of having to shoot every sub by hand.

superb!!! I wonder how far away from the city do you have to be in order to get such clear details on the sky?

That was taken smack bang in the burbs, but yes the further away from light pollution the better. Shooting close as possible to zenith and using filters makes a difference as well.
